Bihar: 804 arrested so far in anti-Agneepath violence, 145 FIRs registered

Patna: Incidents of violent protests have been witnessed in Bihar on Sunday against the 'Agneepath' scheme for short-term recruitment in the Indian Army. The police crackdown on the miscreants continued and train services were affected in view of security concerns. According to a statement issued by the police headquarters, a total of 804 people have been arrested so far in connection with the large-scale violence and arson in the province.  

The number of FIRs registered in connection with the protests is 145 and the drive to trace those suspected of indulging in or indulging in anti-social activities continued. A police headquarters release said internet services have been suspended in 17 of the state's 38 districts and heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces is continuing at some places.  

Highly placed sources have informed that in the afternoon, CM Nitish Kumar met chief secretary Amir Subhani and director general of police (DGP) S. k. Singhal has been called to his residence. The movement of long-distance trains, which are to be operated through east central railway zone (ECR), has been suspended from 4 am as a 'precautionary measure' and will resume at night.
