Guwahati: The situation in Bihar, Kerala, and Assam continues to be grim due to heavy rains. As of Saturday, 159 people have lost their lives in separate incidents in the three states. About 1.2 crore people have been affected in Assam and Bihar due to floods. Bihar alone has more than 66 lakh population in trouble. 19 teams of NDRF are engaged in relief and rescue operations.

In Bihar, 19 people have lost their lives during the last 24 hours, the death toll has gone up to 97. In Madhubani, 18 people have died and 10 people have died in Darbhanga. Sitamarhi is the worst affected district where the death toll has risen to 27. Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi visited Sitamarhi on Saturday to inspect the rescue and relief operations. Flood-affected 12 districts of the state. An official said, the water level of the rivers has come down but Bagmati, Burhi Gandak, Kamla Balan, Adhawara and Mahananda rivers are flowing above the danger mark at many places.

In Assam, as of Saturday, the death toll in rain and flood incidents has risen to 59. Out of 33 districts of the state, 24 districts are submerged in flood. More than 3700 villages are flooded. About 48 lakh people have been affected in the State. The Indian Army is engaged in relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas of the state. 11 people were killed in the state during the last 24 hours.
