There's buzz in Bihar's political circles suggesting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar might make a U-turn back to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In response to these reports, BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde revealed that a meeting of Bihar BJP leaders is set to happen in Patna over the upcoming weekend.

Tawde mentioned, "Bihar BJP leaders are gathering to strategize for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The state executive meeting of Bihar BJP is scheduled for January 27th and 28th in Patna."

He further added, "Today, Bihar state BJP committee along with state BJP MLAs and MPs will convene to deliberate on the Lok Sabha elections."

This meeting comes amidst speculations about Chief Minister Nitish Kumar potentially rejoining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which he departed from in 2022 to form the 'Mahagathbandhan' with the opposition.

Several NDA leaders, including former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi, have hinted at a possible breakdown in the JD(U)-RJD alliance.

Jitan Ram Manjhi, the chief of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), expressed his doubts regarding the sustainability of the ruling Mahagathbandhan government. He noted Nitish Kumar's recent statements against RJD, indicating a probable change in Bihar's political landscape.

Sushil Kumar Modi, a senior BJP leader, remarked on the fluidity of political alliances, hinting at the potential for a reconciliation between Nitish Kumar-led JDU and the BJP.

Nitish Kumar, after severing ties with the BJP in 2022, had taken the initiative to unite opposition forces against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. However, recent developments suggest a possible reevaluation of his political stance.

The genesis of this speculated shift dates back to a statement made by Rohini Acharya, daughter of former Bihar CM and RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav, criticizing JDU's ideology, which sparked tensions within the ruling alliance.

If Nitish Kumar does switch sides, it would mark his fourth political realignment. Currently, in the Bihar Assembly of 243, RJD holds 79 seats, followed by BJP with 78, JD(U) with 45, Congress with 19, CPI (M-L) with 12, and smaller parties like CPI(M), CPI, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), AIMIM, along with one Independent legislator.
