Patna: Panchayat elections are underway in Bihar. People are exercising their franchise to elect panchayat representatives. In Bihar, an elderly man was reportedly died at a polling booth during voting in Bhojpur district. The incident took place at booth number 170 of Lahthan Panchayat in the Piro block of Bhojpur district.

According to reports, 65-year-old Rameshwar Mahato, a resident of Piro village, had reached the polling booth to cast his vote. Rameshwar Mahato had reached Booth No.170 of Gita Middle School Piro of Lehthan Panchayat on Wednesday morning to exercise his vote. After standing in the queue for a while, Rameshwar Mahato suddenly deteriorated as soon as he entered the polling booth and was about to cast his vote.

Rameshwar Mahato fell unconscious there. The staff present at the polling booth sent out the information. Rameshwar Mahato was brought out of the polling booth with the help of security personnel. The family rushed him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared Rameshwar dead. The magistrate posted at the polling booth said on a question related to compensation that senior officials have been informed. According to villagers, there was a lot of intense sunshine which Rameshwar could not bear and fell unconscious as he arrived to cast his vote. The family is in a bad shape currently.
