Indian politician Ramnath Kovind who was Born on 1 October 1945 in a small village in Kanpur was elected the 14th President of India on 20 July 2017. On 25 July 2017, the then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, JS Khehar was sworn in as the President of India. He has been a Rajya Sabha member and Governor of the state of Bihar.

President Kovind belongs to the Kori (Koli) caste, which belongs to the Scheduled Castes in UP, Scheduled Tribes in Gujarat and Scheduled Tribes in Odisha. After taking the degree of Advocacy, he started practicing in Delhi High Court. From 1977 to 1979, Kovind served as the Union Government advocate in the Delhi High Court. In 1991, Kovind joined the BJP party. Rajya Sabha was elected from the state of Uttar Pradesh in the years 1994 and 2000. Thus, Kovind was a member of Rajya Sabha for 12 consecutive years.

Ram Nath Kovind was declared as the Presidential candidate of India on 19 June 2017 by the NDA. BJP President Amit Shah announced his candidature. Shah said that Ramnath Kovind has come out of the Dalit society and he has done a lot for the upliftment of Dalits, he is a lawyer by profession and he has got better constitution. There is also knowledge, so he will prove to be a good president. The result of the presidential election was declared on 20 July 2017 and Kovind became the 14th President of the country.
