NEW DELHI: On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leveled accusations against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he was undermining India's strategic and geopolitical interests by soliciting foreign intervention in internal matters. The BJP's response came after Rahul Gandhi's tweet in which he said, "Manipur burns. EU Parliament discusses India's internal matter. PM hasn't said a word on either!"

In response, Cabinet minister Smriti Irani fired back at the Congress scion, labeling him as "a frustrated dynast" and criticizing his approach. Irani pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Bastille Day Parade in France as the guest of honor, while Rahul Gandhi insinuated a connection between the event and the Rafale fighter jet deal. Irani said, "A man who seeks international intervention in India's internal matters, a frustrated dynast who sullies the 'Make in India' ambition, mocks India when our PM receives a national honor. Rejected by people, he seethes as defense contracts no longer land at the doorstep of dynasty."

During his two-day visit to France, Prime Minister Modi was bestowed with France's highest civilian and military honor, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour. Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, BJP IT cell in-charge Amit Malviya also tweeted, "It can't be a mere coincidence that the EU Parliament proposed to debate the conflict in Manipur, which it has no business venturing into, soon after Rahul Gandhi visited the state. Let's look at the sequence of events. Rahul Gandhi goes to London and seeks foreign intervention in India's internal matters. Then he politicizes the unfortunate conflict in Manipur, which is completely a legacy of Congress, visits Manipur, and next we see a foreign power wanting to sit in judgment on an issue that is internal to India."
