Gandhinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a resounding victory in the civic elections in Gujrat. The BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the elections of 81 district bodies, 31 district panchayats, and 231 taluka in the state. Out of 2720 seats in 81 municipalities, BJP has won 2085 seats, Congress has won 388 seats and Independent candidates have won 172 seats. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party has won 9 seats.

Out of 980 seats in the District Panchayat, 800 seats have gone to the BJP, while Congress has got only 169 seats, with two seats, AAP has also opened an account. Apart from this, out of 4774 seats in 231 taluka panchayats, BJP has won 3351 seats, Congress has won 1252 seats, and AAP 31 seats. Earlier in the first phase of the civic elections held in Gujarat last month, the BJP had won all the six municipal corporations. Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM won nine seats in the Modasa municipality in the Aravalli district. Along with this, he had won one seat from Bharuch and seven seats from Godhra of Panchmahal.

PM Modi said that the results show that Gujarat stands firmly with the agenda of development and good governance of the party. He wrote in a tweet, "The results of the municipal, taluka panchayat and Zilla panchayat elections all over Gujarat give a clear message - Gujarat is with BJP's agenda of development and good governance." He said, "BJP's I salute the people of Gujarat for their unwavering faith and affection.''
