Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu state president of the BJP, K Annamalai, at a protest march organized by the BJP in front of the Sri Kalikambal temple in Chennai on Thursday, October 7, called on the DMK government to lift the ban on weekend worship in all temples within 10 days. Presently, the temples are closed for worship on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

He warned that if the DMK government tries to "impose its ideology" on the people of Tamil Nadu, it will face backlash from the people of the state. The former IPS officer said that while Tasmac shops and cinema halls remain open on all days in the state, temples remain closed from Friday to Sunday. He said that this is completely baseless and it defies all logic. The TN BJP chief said that the state government is reopening schools for all classes for children even though a coronavirus vaccine has not been made for children.

Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan participated in the protest march in Tiruvannamalai, while former BJP national secretary H Raja attended the event in Rameswaram. Former BJP state president CP Radhakrishnan inaugurated the protest in Palani, while senior party leader and Assembly MLA Nainar Nagendran started the protest in Tiruchendur. Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan joined the protest in Coimbatore.
