Patna: On Sunday, Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar, paving the way for the state to have two Deputy Chief Ministers from the BJP – state BJP chief Samrat Chaudhary and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly, Vijay Sinha.

The development unfolded during the legislative party meeting, where Bihar MLAs unanimously passed the proposal to form the NDA government in the state with BJP, JD(U), and other allies. Samrat Chaudhary was elected as the leader of the legislative party, while Vijay Sinha was chosen as the deputy leader. Prior to Kumar's resignation, the BJP had confirmed its intention to form a government in collaboration with Kumar's JD(U) and other allies.

Expressing gratitude, Samrat Chaudhary remarked, "BJP did a historic thing for my life. Having been elected as the leader of the Legislative Party and being a part of the government is an emotional moment for me." Highlighting the mandate received in 2020 for Bihar's development and to address concerns related to Lalu Yadav's rule, Chaudhary stated, "When the BJP received the proposal from Nitish Kumar to ensure that there is no Jungle Raj in Bihar, we decided to support it."

Days after intense speculation about Nitish rejoining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), he terminated the 'Mahagathbandhan' rule in the state. At the Raj Bhavan, Nitish informed Governor Rajendra Arlekar, "We have decided to sever ties with the 'Mahagathbandhan' in the state." The swift political developments were triggered by a social media post from Rohini Acharya, daughter of former Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Yadav. In her post, she took a dig at the JD(U), suggesting that while the 'socialist party' portrays itself as progressive, its ideology shifts with changing wind patterns.
