Bhartiya Janta Party ( BJP) has sought a white paper from its ally National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya government on corruption.
Two of its MLAs – Cabinet minister AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai – are supporting the State Government. Both the MLAs, however, have not spoke on the State BJP unit’s allegations levelled against the government. State BJP president Ernest Mawrie said that the party want a white paper on corruption from the present Government. He further said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma should not accept the demand, if the present MDA Government is clean as claimed.
Mawrie further said that the Government has not convened an MDA meeting so far to discuss issues related to corruption in the Government, an issue that the BJP has been continuously raising. He asked, “Why is an MDA meeting not being convened where corruption issues raised by us can be discussed?”
However, chief minister Sangma has rubbished the accusations made by the Meghalaya BJP unit. He further said that if anyone has any evidence of corruption in the Government, they should come forward to furnish it so that action can be taken.
