Mumbai: The BJP has alleged that a woman MP, Navneet Rana, who was sent to jail after announcing that she would read the Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's residence 'Matoshree', has been manhandled by the BJP. Former Chief Minister of the state and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said that Navneet Rana is being mistreated in jail.

He said the Uddhav Thackeray government is extremely intolerant and they should explain on what basis a sedition case has been registered against Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana. Fadnavis said that how can anyone be prosecuted for sedition if he announces to read the Hanuman Chalisa. "If reading Hanuman Chalisa is treason, then we will all read and recite it daily.''

Fadnavis further said that a woman MP is being mistreated in jail. They are being subjected to controversial comments on caste lines. They are neither being given water nor allowed to use washrooms in the jail. The Shiv Sena has tried to make the BJP understand the definition of Hindutva. The Shiv Sena, while advising the BJP, said that the Hindutva ideology is a culture and not anarchy. The Shiv Sena, in an editorial in its mouthpiece 'Saamana', claimed that the BJP had a role to play behind what independent MP Navneet Rana and her husband and MLA Ravi Rana did.
