BJP Strengthens Hold: Set to Govern 12 States Independently; Congress Shrinks to 3

The BJP is making significant strides toward securing dominance in governance, poised to lead independently in 12 states while the Congress, the nation's second-largest party, faces a decline, set to retain power in only three states. With recent poll wins in three out of four states, the BJP's tally of autonomous state leadership is set to expand.

Presently holding the central administration, the BJP commands authority in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and is poised to reclaim Madhya Pradesh while gaining Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh from the Congress, based on the ongoing vote count.

Furthermore, the BJP is a constituent of the ruling alliance in Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Sikkim.

On the other hand, the Congress will independently govern only three states - Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana, with a potential win in the latter, triumphing over its primary competitor, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Additionally, the Congress is part of the ruling coalition in Bihar and Jharkhand and is aligned with the DMK, the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, though it isn't formally part of the state government.

The election results solidified the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) status as a prominent opposition force, positioning it as the second-largest opposition party. AAP now holds governments in two states, overtaking the Congress, which witnessed a decline in its political presence.

Jasmine Shah, a leader from AAP, remarked following the results, "Today's outcomes establish the Aam Aadmi Party as the primary opposition force in North India, with governing bodies in Punjab and Delhi," as mentioned in a post on X.
