Karnataka: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed optimism that under the leadership of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the BJP will once again form the state government with a full majority. In what is being seen as a message to BJP leaders that new Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is not a stop-gap arrangement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in Davangere on Thursday that he has confidence that under the leadership of Mr. Bommai, the BJP will come back to power with full mandate in Karnataka.

This is being interpreted in BJP circles as a message from the high command that Bommai is going to be at the stewardship position for a long time. A section of party leaders were guessing that there is a possibility of a leader from the RSS stables replacing Bommai. There was also romour that Ex Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s son B.Y. Vijayendra could emerge a competitor to Mr. Bommai for leadership role. However, the remarks of BJP’s key strategist Amit. Shah has, for now, ended speculation on who is going to lead the party in the next elections.

Amit Shah launched various development projects at Davanagere in Karnataka on Thursday at a total cost of Rs 50 crore. He felicitated Freedom Fighters and expressed gratitude towards them for their invaluable contribution to the country's freedom struggle. He also inaugurated the Gandhi Bhawan, the Police Public School and the GM Institute of Technology's central library in Davanagere. Bommai and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
