Kolkata: Bengal BJP MP Dilip Ghosh emphasized on Sunday that resolving the Kashmir issue could be swiftly achieved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting it would take mere minutes to address concerns in the eastern state. His statements followed the arrest of former Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in connection with the Sandeskhali violence case.

Ghosh vehemently criticized the Trinamool Congress, accusing the party of shielding individuals involved in corruption and criminal activities, including Sheikh Shahjahan, who he labeled as both corrupt and a rapist. Highlighting the prevalent lawlessness, Ghosh asserted that criminal elements, including thugs, mafia, and sexual offenders, enjoyed impunity under the Trinamool Congress regime, a concern he has consistently raised.

The BJP MP claimed that the pressure from BJP protests and media scrutiny compelled the Bengal Police to apprehend Sheikh Shahjahan, whom they had allegedly shielded for two months. Expressing disillusionment with the state of affairs under the Trinamool Congress, Ghosh asserted that Bengal had suffered widespread plundering of resources and violations of women's dignity. He anticipated a resounding response from the electorate in the upcoming polls.

Prime Minister Modi also censured the Trinamool Congress during a public address in Arambagh, Hooghly district, expressing solidarity with the aggrieved citizens of Bengal, particularly women affected by the Sandeskhali incident. He vowed that the people of the state would seek retribution through their votes.

Meanwhile, Ghosh questioned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's meeting with PM Modi during his recent visit to Bengal, insinuating that she was scrambling to salvage her party's image. Sheikh Shahjahan, accused of sexual assault and land encroachment in Sandeshkhali, was apprehended on February 29 following a 55-day manhunt, marked by violent protests and political upheaval. His suspension from the Trinamool Congress followed his arrest, and the Calcutta High Court scheduled a hearing for March 4 on the matter, signaling no leniency towards the former leader.
