Fatal Encounter: Police Constable and Naxal Killed in Chhattisgarh's Kanker District

Raipur: A police constable and a Naxal were fatally injured in a confrontation in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Sunday, according to a senior police official.

The exchange of fire occurred in a forest near Hidur village under the jurisdiction of the Chhotebethiya police station when a combined team of security personnel was engaged in an anti-Naxal operation, the official stated.

The operation was initiated following specific intelligence regarding the presence of Naxals in the Hidur forest area, the official elaborated.

Constable Ramesh Kurethi, associated with Bastar Fighters - a unit of the state police, succumbed to injuries sustained during the gun battle, the official confirmed.

The body of a Naxal, along with an AK-47 rifle, was recovered from the site of the encounter, the official further reported.

Search operations are currently being conducted in the vicinity, the official concluded.
