While the Commonwealth Games 2022 ceremony will be held in Birmingham, England, the shooting and archery celebrations will be held at City Beauty Chandigarh. The Organizing Committee of the Commonwealth Games has also approved to host these celebrations. The problem is that Chandigarh has got the hosting to organize these events, but there is no land-based system in the city for this. There is a great need to build a land-based system for such a big event.
The blueprint has also been prepared in the Sports Department to avoid any shortage of international level. The Forest Department has given 11.65 acres of land to develop Rao Shooting Range-25 of Patiala for the shooting event. In such a situation, its construction work will start soon. For this, the UT Sports Department has planned the project and sent it to the Ministry of Sports.
Rao Shooting Range-25 of Patiala will be prepared afresh for the Commonwealth Games. Currently, 10 meters of shooting is done in Range-1. Shooting ranges of 25 meters on Range-2, 50 meters in Range-3 and 4 and 300 meters in Range Five (sitting, standing, lying). All these shooting ranges currently have manual targets, while electronic shooting targets are required for large events like the Commonwealth Games. Apart from this, the target will also have to be increased in this shooting range.
