Mumbai: A 4-storey building collapsed in Mumbai's Dongri area on Tuesday, the country's economic capital. The building was located on Tandel Road in Dongri. 40-50 people are feared trapped under the debris. More than 8 families lived in this building.

According to Home Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, 12 people have lost their lives in the incident so far. While the MHADA building was given to the developer for reconstruction, MHADA Chairman Uday Samanta said that 15 families lived in the building.

It may be mentioned that there are several buildings in Mumbai which have been served notices by the BMC. According to information, there are 600 places in the city. They have issued notices to the BMC. Yet thousands of people are living in these buildings risking their lives. During the rainy season, the sword tied to the raw thread hangs over their heads. A similar building in Mumbai's Dogari area collapsed on Tuesday. The building that collapsed today is reported to be MHADA.

Of the buildings that the BMC has issued notices to, more than 400 dilapidated buildings are private. While more than 80 BMC buildings have been declared dangerous, more than 40 buildings of MHADA and the state government are also on the alarming list. The most dangerous buildings are reported to be in the Kurla area of Mumbai.
