Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was honored with both these awards. Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was born on October 9, 1945, in Gwalior. Amjad Ali Khan turned 74 years old today. Sarod Samrat Amjad Ali Khan, who charmed the master musicians by giving his first musical performance at the age of 12. On the 144th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, when it came to paying homage to the father of the nation at the special meeting of the United Nations, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awardee Sarod player Amjad Ali Khan was selected for the task.

While many instruments of Indian classical music are on the verge of extinction and music practice is ending. Amjad Ali Khan enriched Indian classical music with a musical instrument that was not only produced by enhancing the Indian musical tradition and instruments, but he also brought 'Rabab' from Iran.

This new instrument is called 'Sarod' which means melody. Amjad Ali Khan has not only kept the traditional music of the Bangesh Gharana famous for music alive in the sixth generation but has given it a new life with many original compositions.
