BENGALURU: The ruling BJP is seeing strong political activity inside the party as Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai arrived in New Delhi on Monday, amid a hijab issue that threatens to turn into a major crisis in the state.

According to party sources, CM Bommai would meet with the BJP high command to discuss cabinet expansion and reshuffle.

Though the CM said that he would meet with MPs, legal experts, and senior counsels who are arguing for the state in interstate water conflicts, Cabinet expansion will be discussed first because prominent BJP legislators in the state have demanded a berth in the Cabinet. The visit has taken on added significance with the state Congress unit threatening 'reverse operation lotus.'

According to the sources, up to seven cabinet ministers in high-ranking positions will be replaced. As a result, these senior ministers are hard at work pressing their godfathers in New Delhi to keep their jobs.

According to sources, CM Bommai met with former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa before to the trip and accepted his suggestions on Cabinet expansion and future initiatives for the party's organisation in the run-up to the 2023 general elections.

The high command will make a decision on the crucial issue of B.Y. Vijayendra, Yediyurappa's son, receiving Cabinet posts, which will have direct implications for Yediyurappa's participation in the upcoming Assembly elections. During bypolls, Yediyurappa's exclusion has cost the party dearly.
