Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai accused Congress of violating the flag code in the Assembly on Wednesday. In the Karnataka Assembly, the Chief Minister stated that the Congress had failed to act as a responsible Opposition party.
His comments came after a protest in the Assembly by Congress leaders, who waved the national flag and demanded the resignation of state Minister K S Eshwarappa, whose alleged claims of hanging the saffron flag at the Red Fort aroused outrage in the state.
"In the House's well, they've used the national flag. On how it must be utilised, there is a flag code. The national flag must be treated with respect. The flag code has been broken by Congress. People are keeping an eye on it. Congress has failed to act responsibly as an opposition party "During a press conference, Bommai stated.
Bommai said that the Congress leaders are selectively using only a portion of Eshwarappa's words and thereby misleading the Assembly and the people of the state.
"Eshwarappa has clarified his position. He didn't suggest the saffron flag will be raised at the Red Fort right away, but rather after 300 or 500 years. He stated that it might or might not happen. He further stated that the national flag has been accepted and that no one should insult it. Eshwarappa has made no legal errors, and no action can be done against him " he added.
