Bengaluru: Amid calls for the Cabinet to be expanded ahead of next year's Karnataka Assembly elections, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated on Monday that a meeting on the subject will be conducted in New Delhi, where the party's high command will make a decision.

Bommai, speaking to reporters, said, "JP Nadda, the BJP's president, has announced that a meeting will be convened in Delhi. The party's top command will decide whether to expand or rearrange the Cabinet."  Earlier in the day, during his two-day visit to the state, Nadda met with the party's state core committee and discussed organisational matters in the presence of the Chief Minister.

Bommai recently met with the party's senior brass in the national capital on a two-day visit, including the national president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting's top agenda item was said to be the extension of the eight-month-old government's cabinet.

The Chief Minister had described his visit to New Delhi as "successful" when he returned.

Bommai, who is also a member of the politically powerful Lingayat group, was sworn in as Chief Minister on July 28 last year, following the resignation of his predecessor, BS Yediyurappa.

Karnataka is set to hold elections next year, and Bommai blew the bugle in the Vijayanagar convention on Sunday in preparation. "For our good administration, maintaining law and order, and nationalist agenda, we would seek a positive mandate from farmers, women, and the weaker parts of society. We'll present our performance report card to the people "Bommai remarked.
