NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday emphasised the importance of collectively ending the panic cycle and preventing pandemic weariness from undermining the nation's efforts to be prepared for the coronavirus crisis.
In his keynote address at the second G20 Health Working Group Meeting, he said that India's G20 Presidency plans to build on the momentum started by Italy's and Indonesia's presidency of the G20 and consolidate the progress already made in the areas of preparedness, prevention, and response for health emergencies.
The Union Minister remarked, "It is essential for us to collectively break the cycle of panic and neglect and not let the phenomenon of pandemic fatigue diminish our ongoing efforts on pandemic preparedness, prevention, and response." The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant negative impact on healthcare systems around the world.
He also emphasised the need for a formal global coordination system for medical countermeasures and mentioned India's agenda for digital health and innovation, which aims to promote the use of technology in the delivery of healthcare services while bridging the global digital divide and advancing digital public good. "As the G20 Health Working Group, we are moving in the right direction to jointly creating a positive impact for the future global health architecture." he said.
The world is one family, according to the ancient Indian philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," which Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union Minister of State for Health, emphasised in a statement. He also stressed the importance of building resilient healthcare systems to ensure that people everywhere have access to affordable, high-quality healthcare.
Rajesh Bhushan, the Union Health Secretary, emphasised the need for an integrated global health framework using the 'One Health' concept and the necessity to address the problem of antimicrobial resistance.
He asked everyone to keep talking so that everyone would work together to achieve universal health coverage.
