New Delhi: As per updates from the Union health ministry on Saturday, April 15, India reported 10,753 new coronavirus infections over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 53,720. The current positivity rate is 6.78%, with the number of reported cases totaling 44.9 million and the death toll standing at 531,091.

Epidemiologists claim that the number of cases of covid has been increasing every four to five days. The current outbreak is thought to be caused by the coronavirus strain XBB.1.16, according to scientists. But thankfully, the virus is thought to be less severe and may not increase the hospitalisation rate because Indians have probably established a hybrid immunity as a result of vaccination and unavoidable exposure to the illness. However, the Centre has recommended individuals to finish their vaccinations and wear masks in busy areas.

States and union territories are required to use a risk assessment-based strategy by the Union Health Ministry to stop and contain the illness. The ministry has urged state governments to assess the covid-19 situation at the local level (districts and sub-districts) and to keep their attention on putting the essential measures in place for timely and effective covid-19 management while also ensuring effective compliance.

According to the health ministry, "the five-fold strategy, i.e., Test-Track Treat-Vaccination should be followed with continued focus on adequate & proactive testing as per guidelines, monitoring new and emerging clusters of new Covid-19 cases along with monitoring the trend of Influenza-like illness (ILI) & SARI cases in all health facilities or through dedicated fever clinics on a regular basis for detecting early warning signals of the spread of infection,"

Covid cases have gradually risen across the nation; Karnataka reported 1,772 active cases, while Kerala reported 18,663 active cases. There are currently 5,928 ongoing cases in Maharashtra, 2,087 in Gujarat, 4,311 in Delhi, 2,876 in Tamil Nadu, 2,144 in Himachal Pradesh, and 2,579 in Uttar Pradesh.

More than 220.66 crore vaccine doses have now been given to citizens of the country as part of the COVID vaccination effort. Approximately 397 vaccination doses were given out in the previous 24 hours.
