Southern Railway officials reported that a goods train heading towards Chennai Harbour derailed near Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu late on Sunday night around 10:30 pm. The derailment affected over five coaches of the freight train, hampering passenger movement. Efforts are currently ongoing to clear the tracks.

"Last night at around 10:30 pm, a goods train carrying iron-related rods derailed near Chengalpattu while en route to Chennai Harbour. Over five coaches of the train were involved in the derailment," stated officials from the Chengalpattu Railway.

The disruption has impacted the movement of passenger trains traveling from South Tamil Nadu to Chennai. Railway authorities are actively working to clear the tracks and manage the flow of trains, stated the officials.

Another incident occurred on Sunday, where seven loaded wagons of a goods train derailed between Kasara, situated more than 100 kilometers from Mumbai, and the TGR-3 station on the Central Railway network, as reported by an official from the news agency PTI.

"The derailment occurred at 6:31 pm, affecting the mail express traffic on the Kasara-Igatpuri section of the Down line and middle line," the official added.

Central Railway's chief public relations officer (CPRO) Shivraj Manaspure stated, "At 18:31 hrs, a goods train derailed between Kasara and TGR-3 on the DOWN line section, on the Down Main line. The affected train is the JNPT/DLIB Container train with two wagons derailed. Mail express traffic between Kasara and Igatpuri on the Down section and the middle line is impacted. However, suburban local train traffic remains unaffected."
