Himachal Pradesh-Nahan: A fifty-year-old steel bridge collapsed in Himachal's Nahan when a heavily loaded truck passed through it, bringing the traffic in the locality to a halt, officials said today, April 25.
The bridge collapsed late Monday night, when the driver of the limestone-loaded truck was injured and is being treated at the community hospital, officials said.
The bridge, 6 km from Dadahu village in Sirmaur district, is located in Danoi Khud on the Dadahu-Renuka-Sangrah-Haripurdhar route. It was constructed in 1972 and has a per-vehicle load capacity of 10 tonnes. The locals claimed that the bridge had eroded over the previous 30 years due to the fact that trucks frequently utilised it to transport up to 40 tonnes of limestone from the mines in Sangrah. Since Monday night, traffic to and from Sangrah-Haripurdhar and Dadahu-Renuka Ji has been detoured, according to Sangrah Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mukesh Dadwal. It has been suggested that commuters use the Jarag-Khud Dravil road.
Sangrah is barely 25 km distant, but Ram Bhaj, a local resident of Renuka Ji, claimed that due to the present diversion through the Jarag-Khud Dravil road, commuters will now have to go about 60 km. Due to the high number of visitors to Haripurdhar during April and June, the affected route is particularly crowded throughout the summer.
