In the latest update, Air India's Chief of Flight Safety has been temporarily suspended from duty for a duration of one month by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The action follows a thorough examination by the aviation regulatory body, which uncovered notable shortcomings in the airline's accident prevention measures.

The DGCA conducted an exhaustive evaluation of Air India's operations on July 25th and 26th, focusing on internal audits, accident prevention protocols, and the availability of essential technical personnel. According to the DGCA's official statement, "Several internal audits and spot checks, as claimed by the airline, were found to be conducted in a perfunctory manner, falling short of meeting regulatory standards."

Furthermore, the statement emphasized that Air India has been instructed not to assign any audits, surveillance activities, or spot checks related to DGCA compliance to the specific auditor responsible for the subpar inspections. This directive underscores the necessity for enhanced diligence in safety oversight within the organization.

The DGCA underscored its decision by specifying that the Chief of Flight Safety at Air India would be suspended from their role for a one-month period, as the identified lapses were deemed significant and necessitated immediate corrective action.

This suspension serves as a stark reminder of the paramount importance of stringent safety measures in the aviation industry and sends a clear signal that regulatory authorities will not compromise when it comes to ensuring passenger safety. Air India, in response, is expected to intensify its commitment to bolstering accident prevention protocols and adherence to DGCA requirements during this critical period.
