LONDON: A British Member of Parliament has criticized the BBC for its coverage of the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, India.

During a session in the House of Commons on Thursday, Conservative MP Bob Blackman expressed his disappointment, stating, "Last week, the Ram Mandir was consecrated in Ayodhya—the birthplace of Lord Ram—in Uttar Pradesh, India. This event brought great joy to Hindus worldwide. However, the BBC's report portrayed it as the site of a mosque's destruction, overlooking its history as a temple for over 2,000 years. Muslims were allotted a separate five-acre site nearby for a mosque."

Blackman urged for a discussion on "BBC's impartiality and its failure to accurately depict global events."

In response, Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt acknowledged the significance of the issues raised, referring to a recent review of the BBC's practices.

The BBC faced criticism over an online article on the inauguration, prompting the publication to defend its stance, stating, "Some readers felt the article was biased against Hindus and used provocative language. However, we stand by our reporting, which we believe accurately reflects historical events."

Insight UK penned an open letter to the BBC, Ofcom, and the House of Lords, condemning the broadcaster's biased coverage against Hindus. The letter highlighted omissions such as the discovery of the Ram temple by a Muslim archaeologist and a Muslim's involvement in the Supreme Court's decision to allocate the land to Hindus.

Following an interview with BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta on BBC Radio 4 Today regarding the Ram Mandir consecration on January 23, Dasgupta criticized the BBC's stance, stating, "Previously, the BBC attempted to maintain neutrality, but now it openly vilifies Hindu sentiments."
