A recent scientific investigation has uncovered that the Ayodhya Ram temple, a site of immense devotion, is constructed to endure earthquakes of significant magnitude, occurring once in every 2,500 years.

The research, led by the CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI) based in Roorkee, encompassed various analyses including geophysical assessments, soil examinations, and intricate structural evaluations.

"Our primary goal was to ensure the structural integrity of the temple against seismic activities, specifically earthquakes with a return period of 2,500 years," stated Debdutta Ghosh, a senior scientist at CSIR-CBRI.

Under the guidance of CSIR-CBRI Director Pradeep Kumar Ramancharla and his predecessor N Gopalakrishnan, Ghosh and Manojit Samanta spearheaded the study, scrutinizing every aspect from foundation designs to architectural intricacies.

The investigation involved advanced techniques such as Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) and electrical resistance tomography to gauge soil properties and potential water saturation zones.

Furthermore, the structural analysis incorporated over 50 computer models to ensure optimal performance and safety under diverse conditions.

The temple's construction, predominantly crafted from Bansi Paharpur sandstone, is meticulously engineered without steel reinforcement, promising a lifespan of 1,000 years.

Ghosh emphasized the use of specialized bricks with high compressive strength, exceeding 20 MPa, ensuring robustness under standard conditions.

This comprehensive study not only ensures the structural durability of the iconic temple but also reaffirms its significance as a timeless symbol of faith and heritage.
