The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is looking forward to investing around Rs.1,400 crore for multiple projects in Arunachal Pradesh this year, a senior official said on Monday.  The organisation is already building roads worth Rs 1,000 crore in the state, its additional director-general for Northeast PKH Singh said.

Of the total authorised Rs 20,000 crore, the BRO aims to invest Rs 1,300-1,400 crore in the state this year, he added. The state government has not yet granted forest permission for roads worth at least Rs 2,500 crore, but he promised that he was working hard to do so, he said.

To get their assistance, he said, "I will meet with Forest Minister Mama Natung, Chief Secretary Dharmendra, and Development Commissioner (East) PS Lokhande." This is because many stretches of the proposed BRO roads are within the right of way (RoW), for which land compensation has already been paid. The job would go more quickly if we had the forest approvals, Singh added.

He said, some of these are extremely ancient projects, such as the Sessa Road in East Kameng district, Elephant Road, and Balipara-Chardwar-Tawang (BCT) Road. He added, "While the work for the Sessa Road is pending over forest clearance, the single-lane Elephant Road has already been finished.
The project is anticipated to be given to contractors this year because the alignment of the Dirang Bypass, a section of the BCT Road, is complete. With the exception of a few minor patches, almost 90% of the work on West Siang district's Siyom Valley Road is finished, he claimed. Finishing these roads will guarantee reverse migration in border villages, according to Singh. According to the official, the 2,000 km long Arunachal Frontier Highway was designed as an axial route along the India-China boundary.
