Bus accident in Indonesia's Yogyakarta, 13 death, 8 injured

JAKARTA: According to a spokesman for the National Search and Rescue Office, thirteen persons were killed and eight others were injured in a bus accident in Indonesia's Yogyakarta region.

The tragedy happened at 13:00 local time (0600 GMT) on Sunday in Bantul district, and all of the victims were taken to three nearby hospitals, according to the spokesman. The bus carried a total of 40 people, all of them were employees of a textile company who planned to travel to the Parangtritis tourism spot on Java's southern shore, he said.

According to Pipit Eriyanto, Press Officer of the Yogyakarta Search and Rescue Office, one of the victims was a child, and four people received serious wounds, while four others received moderate and minor injuries.

According to Xinhua reports, the police chief in Bantul district, Senior Commissioner Ihsan, said that the driver lost control of the bus while driving over a downhill road and collided with a higher terrain on the right side. He told reporters that police were conducting an inquiry into the fatal accident, including the cause.
