New Delhi: C Muhammed Faizi has been appointed by the Indian government to the Haj Committee for a term ending March 31, 2025.
The decision was made using the power given by the Haj Committee Act of 2002. With effect from April 21, Faizi's new role will be counted.
In a gazette notification, the Ministry of Minority Affairs acknowledges Faizi's appointment as a member of the Haj Committee of India "under sub-section (11), of Section 4 of the Haj Committee Act, 2002."
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Sections 3, 4, 5, and 6 read with Section 15 (1) of the Haj Committee Act, 2002(35 of 2002), the Central Government hereby appoints C Muhammed Faizi as a member of the Haj Committee of India under sub-section (11), of Section 4 of the said Act, with effect from the date of publication of the notification in the Official Gazette...," the notification reads.
In India, the Government of Minority Affairs is the main ministry for the Haj pilgrimage. The Haj pilgrimage is organised for Indian pilgrims by the Haj Committee of India (HCoI), which is a statutory organisation under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, or by Haj Group Organisers (HGOs) who have been duly approved by the Ministry.
