In the ongoing session of Delhi Assembly, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has tabled the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General)’s report. The report is on the purview of Excise Department’s policy 2024 that highlights upon liquor supply in Delhi.
The BJP has always been alleging that the CAG report was withheld by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Last Thursday, CM Rekha Gupta had said that the reports will be made public in the first session of the newly formed government. The report contains the review of state’s finances, public health infrastructure, vehicular air pollution, liquor regulation and the functioning of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
As today’s session began AAP MLAs began with their protests, sloganeering and causing disruptions in the Assembly. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Dr. VK Saxena was addressing the house starting with the inauguration. Seeing the ruckus, all the 22 AAP MLAs were suspended for whole day by the speaker, including Leader of Opposition Aatishi. They were protesting against the alleged removal of photos of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the Delhi Chief Minister’s office as well as the Secretariat. Following the suspension, the MLAs headed outside the assembly and sat on a dharna.
Responding to this, BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay said, “They continuously disrupt the LG’s address…the house will function following the rule of law.”
With the assembly in session and the CAG report being presented, the 14 major points of the Excise department’s policy establish a stronghold for the party in power, BJP upon which it can attack the AAP. The MLA of AAP Gopal Rai had said, “We also want the CAG report to be presented so that the truth can come out…The way they insulted Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh yesterday shows the intentions of BJP.”
On presenting the CAG reports, LG Saxena had said, “My government, in its first cabinet meeting, decided to table the CAG reports. This will pave the way to identify and address administrative deficiencies of the last government. In the coming months, we will focus on corruption-free governance, women empowerment, clean Delhi, Yamuna rejuvenation, and clean drinking water.”
