New Delhi: A rare case of black fungus has been registered in a patient at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital after dengue. Mohammad Talib, 49, a resident of Greater Noida, had rushed to the hospital with a complaint of loss of eyesight after recovering from dengue. Dr Suresh Naruka, Senior, ENT Department, Hospital said that the patient being treated is a rare case of black fungus meaning mucormycosis in our eyes.
The same patient, after recovering from dengue, suddenly rushed to the hospital complaining of loss of eyesight. Such cases are often found in patients with diabetes, low immunity or any other infection. Hospital registrar Dr Nishant Rana said the patient suffered a nose bleed before coming to the hospital. This happened 15 days after recovering from dengue. The platelets of the patient were reduced due to dengue. However, he did not need platelets. Dengue caused the patient to develop mucormycosis due to low immunity.
The same was the case of black fungus in the country due to the second wave of corona recently. In such cases, especially diabetics were suffering from black fungus after recovering from the corona.
