Chandigarh: Operation Blue Star took place during the Indira Gandhi government in 1984 to clear the Golden Temple of Amritsar from the separatists. On the orders of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, this campaign to remove the separatists sitting in the camp for three years has completed 36 years. After the completion of 36 years, it was also mentioned in the Parliament of Canada after Britain.

Ruby Sahota, an Indian-origin MP from the ruling Liberal Party of Canada, referred to the operation in Parliament. In the Canadian Parliament, Ruby said that Operation Blue Star, conducted 36 years ago, is one of the darkest times in Sikh history. She said that the attack on the Golden Temple of Amritsar in 1984 has been recorded forever in my memory. Indian-origin MP Ruby Sahota said that the human rights flag was blown off during this operation. She said that "I stand with Sikhs and every community who want justice on violation of their human rights. Before Canada, Sikh MP of Indian origin Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi had also raised the matter in the UK Parliament."

Dhesi, MP for the opposition Labor Party of Britain, demanded a discussion on the issue in the House of Commons. He said that despite the recent revelations about the attack on the Golden Temple, the holiest site of Sikhs, the demand of British Sikhs and opposition parties, the role of the then Margaret Thatcher government of Britain in this operation was not conducted objectively.
