Amritsar: Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh spoke to the media about fulfilling the promises of the 2017 manifesto as well as plans for his new party. Once again, he expressed his concerns about the security of Punjab. Talking to the media, Captain Amarinder Singh revealed that Congress working president Sonia Gandhi had earlier turned down his offer of resignation, but called for his resignation a few days later.

When Amarinder Singh was asked, 'When you resigned as the Chief Minister of Punjab and indicated that you would form a new party separately from the Congress, did Sonia Gandhi discuss with you, or did Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka contact you?' Replying to this, the Captain said, 'Sonia Gandhi spoke to me three or four weeks before I offered to resign. I told her that I cannot take this responsibility anymore. She asked me why? I told that Navjot Singh Sidhu and I are running on a separate track. On hearing this, Sonia Gandhi asked me not to resign.''

Captain Amarinder Singh further said, 'One morning, Sonia Gandhi called me and asked me to resign. On this, I said that I had offered you my resignation, to which he only replied, 'I'm sorry.'
