One of the battalions that was deployed in the area was 17 Jat. Anuj’s first major operation was to secure Pimple II (Pimple Complex peak) on the western slope of Point 4875 (Mushkoh Valley). Due to its strategic location, securing Point 4875 was a top priority for the Indian Army. The peak,  at 15,990 feet above sea level, had very steep slopes and  was considered almost impossible to capture without air support. In a last ditch effort, C Coy, 17 Jat under Nayyar  decided to secure the peak without waiting for air support on 6 July.

In the early stages of C Coy's attack on Pimple II, Nayyar's company commander was wounded and command passed to him. As the unit advanced under heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire, the command team reported the location of 3-4 enemy bunkers. Nayyar advanced and destroyed the first bunker with a rocket launcher and grenades. Still under heavy fire, he then went into a command section of 7 men and destroyed two more bunkers.

During the battle, Nayyar killed 9 Pakistani soldiers and destroyed three medium machine gun bunkers. The company then launched an attack on the last remaining bunker, but while clearing it, Nayyar received a direct hit from an enemy RPG, killing him instantly. Pimple II was captured on July 8, but Anuj Nayyar had to pay his ultimate sacrifice in the mission.  During the battle, 46 cadres of the Pakistani army, an unknown number of Pakistani paramilitary, militants  and 11 Indian army soldiers, including Capt., were killed in the Pimple Complex. Charlie Company was tasked on 06 July 1999 to take an objective on the western slope of point 4875, Mushkoh valley. The company commander was injured at the start of the attack and the company leadership was handed over to Captain Anuj Niyyar. Niyyar led his leading platoons into the assault under heavy enemy fire from artillery and mortars. As the platoons moved forward, the first enemy positions were reported by the leading section. Captain Niyyar fired a rocket and lobbed some grenades into the first enemy positions.

The section along with captain Nayyar then physically attacked the position and cleared it. The enemy was well entrenched and heavy automatic fire was coming from all directions. Capt Niyyar motivated his men to take the next two enemy positions and cleared them. During the clearing of the fourth position, the officer was hit by a rocket and was martyred on the spot by an enemy RPG.
