CBI arrests MHA officer for offering bribe

New Delhi: CBI caught an officer red-handed taking a bribe. This officer was posted as the Home Ministry Section Officer. Officer Dheeraj Kumar Singh had offered a bribe of Rs 2 crore to a CBI DIG to close the investigation in a case involving a public sector company, but the DIG informed his senior officers. After this, the CBI laid a trap and arrested the officer as soon as he arrived to deliver the first instalment of Rs 16 lakh.

Along with Dheeraj Kumar Singh, Dinesh Chandra Gupta, also associated with the said company, has been arrested. The FIR would have been registered in this case after the preliminary investigation had found strong evidence. Meanwhile, Dheeraj Kumar Singh approached the DIG in the preliminary inquiry and told the charges to be baseless and in lieu of this, gave a lure of Rs 2 crore.

After receiving a complaint from the DIG, CBI planned to arrest Dheeraj Kumar Singh red-handed. The DIG was asked to pay something in advance of the bribe and the matter was fixed at Rs 16 lakh. The CBI officials were closely watching the entire negotiations and bargaining. After the arrest, CBI searched the house of Dhiraj Kumar Singh and Dinesh Chandra Gupta. The CBI has found many important documents in the search.
