NEW DELHI: In connection with a bribery case, a former Social Security Assistant of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) was sentenced to four years in prison and fined Rs 1,000,000 by the Special Judge, CBI cases, in Rajasthan's Jaipur.

According to reports, the CBI opened an investigation on September 7, 2017 after receiving a complaint that Manoj Kumar Tarani, the accused and then-Social Security Assistant of EPFO's regional office in Jaipur's Jyoti Nagar, demanded a bribe of Rs 14,000 for correcting the personal details of the complainant and six other Vijay store employees' PF accounts.

Following receipt of the complaint, the CBI filed a FIR and constituted a team to investigate the incident and apprehend the accused.

The culprit was apprehended while taking a bribe of Rs 14,000 from the complainant, thanks to a set-up.  After collecting the statements of the witnesses, the CBI gathered more evidence and drafted a chargesheet. Following that, the agency filed a chargesheet at the Special Judge's court in Jaipur.
