Kolkata: After Partha Chatterjee in West Bengal, another minister in the Mamata Banerjee government has come under the scanner of the central probe agency. The CBI on Wednesday (September 6) raided the premises of Law and Labour Minister Malay Ghatak in a case related to the coal scam in Asansol. It is being told that the CBI had summoned Malay Ghatak several times in this case, but he did not appear before the investigating agency. In such a situation, the CBI has now raided his residence.

This action of the CBI has come at a time when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Partha Chatterjee, a cabinet minister in the Mamata government, in connection with the teachers' scam a few days ago. Around Rs, 50 crores in cash were recovered from Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of Partha Chatterjee. After the controversy escalated, Mamata Banerjee dropped Partha Chatterjee from the cabinet. It is alleged that illegal mining of coal was carried out in the leased mines of Eastern CoalFields in Kunustoria and Kajora areas near Asansol.

According to the probe agency, the probe has indicated financial transactions worth Rs 1,300 crores. Most of this money went to many influential people. Along with this, the investigation has revealed that money was deposited in the foreign bank account of these influential people through hawala.
