On Friday: A non-steroidal contraceptive pill developed by Central Drug Research Institute has been included in the National Family Planning Programme.

Madhu Dikshit the director of CDRI said, “The inclusion of the pill, Centchroman, in NFPP was announced by minister of health and family welfare J P Nadda during the National Summit on Family Planning Programme held in Delhi,"

Dikshit said, “Centchroman is suitable for women who want to space out their pregnancies and thereby ensure the best for their children”

"It is regarded as the most convenient and safest contraceptive with one dose a week," she added

The pill,  was earlier marketed as `Saheli' by a private company, will now be available as `Chhaya'.

Dikshit also admired -the work of team of researchers led by former CDRI director.
