New Delhi: The Central government has once again shared important information about fake universities operating in the country. In a written reply to Parliament, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that UGC has declared 24 institutions across the country as fake universities. He also said that in addition to these, two other institutions are accused of breaking the rules and the matter is sub-judice. Uttar Pradesh has declared the highest number of 8 such fake universities.

The Government has stated that in these schools, Varanasi Sanskrit University, Varanasi; Mahila Gram Vidyapeeth, Allahabad; Gandhi Hindi University, Allahabad; National University of Electro Complex Homoeopathy, Kanpur; Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Open University, Aligarh; Uttar Pradesh University, Mathura; Maharana Pratap Shiksha Niketan University, Pratapgarh and Indraprastha Shiksha Parishad, Noida are named. On the other hand, seven universities in the national capital, Delhi, have been put on the list of duties by the UGC, namely, Commercial Universities Limited, United Nations University, Professional Universities, ADR-centric Judicial Universities, Indian Institutes of Science and Engineering, Vishwakarma Open University for Self-Employment and Spiritual Universities.

Two universities each in Odisha and West Bengal are included in the list. Their names are Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkata and Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Kolkata as well as Navbharat Shiksha Parishad, Rourkela, and North Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology. On the other hand, one fake university has been found in Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Puducherry. Their names are Shri Bodhi Academy of Higher Education, Puducherry; Christ New Testament Deemed University, Andhra Pradesh; Raja Arabic University, Nagpur; St. John's University, Kerala and The Badganvi Government World Open University Education Society, Karnataka.

Briefing about the steps taken by the UGC against fake or unrecognized universities, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "UGC will make public the list of fake universities/institutions in national Hindi and English newspapers, making it easier for students to identify these educational institutions as well.", the Prime Minister said.
