NEW DELHI: The Modi government will introduce the 'Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Bill in the Upper House today to curb triple talaq (divorce-e-bid) after it is passed in the Lok Sabha. The government wants the bill to be passed in the Rajya Sabha at all costs, so the BJP has instructed all its MPs to be present in the House full time on Tuesday. The party has issued a 3-line whip to all members on Monday.

The whip issued by the party said that members of both the Houses will be present on Tuesday and will support the bills introduced by the government. The bill is expected to be tabled in the House at 12 noon. On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party (SP) does not want the bill to be passed in the Rajya Sabha. So, to oppose the bill, it has already instructed all its MPs to be present in the House full-time. In the Rajya Sabha, SP Chief Whip Ravi Verma told all MPs that since several important bills are likely to come to the Rajya Sabha next week, the presence of all MPs is mandatory.

According to SP sources, the party wants to prevent the triple talaq bill from being passed in the Rajya Sabha. That's why this whip has been released by SP. The triple talaq bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, which is required to be passed by the Rajya Sabha for legal recognition. But the bill may get stuck due to the NDA not having a majority in the Rajya Sabha. However, it is the BJP's endeavor to pass the triple talaq bill through floor management in the Rajya Sabha this time.
