New Delhi: Slums along the railway line in the national capital Delhi will not be removed now. This information was given by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared in the court on behalf of the central government, to the largest court in the country. He said in the court that the Ministry of Urban Development, ministry of Railways and Delhi government will sit together and resolve the matter in four weeks, till then slums will not be demolished. The apex court then deferred the case for four weeks.

During the hearing, Tushar Mehta told the court that the centre is yet to take a final decision on the removal of 48,000 slums located near railway tracks in Delhi. It may be noted that the case was first heard on September 3. The court then directed the removal of 48,000 slums along the railway tracks up to 140 kms in Delhi within three months.

Earlier in the past hearing, the court had said that there should be no political interference in the implementation of the move. The court said, the slum dwellers will be removed in a phased manner. A three-member bench of Justice Arun Misra, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Krishna Murari also prevented any court from imposing any ban on removal of encroachments in the area.
