Odisha has received a financial allocation of around Rs 9,734 crore, which is higher than the state's proposals for railway infrastructure and safety-related projects in the 2022-23 Union budget, according to a senior official.
Though the railways did not formally reveal the allocation figure due to the model code of conduct for assembly elections in five states, an official said the budget allocation for Odisha this year is Rs 2,738.5 crore, up from Rs 6,995.58 crore the previous year.
This comprised state contributions and also extrabudgetary resources (EBR) such as loans. The state administration had previously requested Rs 7,600 crore from the central budget for railway infrastructure development in Odisha. According to him, the allotment includes the entire East Coast Railway Zone, as well as portions of the South Eastern Railway and South East Central Railway zones, all of which are within Odisha's jurisdiction.
In the Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, the state was granted Rs 8,415.96 crore for ECoR, while Rs 1,287 and Rs 31.04 crore were earmarked for infrastructure
