NEW DELHI: The Telangana government has been given permission to deposit 6.05 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of fortified parboiled rice with the Food Corporation of India (FCI).  This will be done with the residual paddy from KMS 2020-21 (Rabi crop) and KMS 2021-22 paddy. On May 11, a letter in this regard was sent in response to the state government's request.

The original milling/delivery period for KMS 2020-21 (Rabi) in Telangana was from September 2021 to September 2022. This has been extended for the sixth time, until May 2022, at the request of the Telangana state administration.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao staged a 'Maha Dharna' in Delhi earlier this month, demanding paddy procurement from his state.

The Centre authorised a procurement estimate of 40.20 LMT of rice in Telangana for KMS 2021-22 (Rabi Crop), with a procurement period of June 2022 and a milling period of September 2022. The Department of Food and Public Distribution accepted the procurement estimate a week later, as requested by the Telangana state government through letter in the second week of April.
