NEW DELHI: The Parliament was told on Tuesday that there is no provision for accommodating or transferring medical students from international medical universities to Indian medical colleges.

"There are no such provisions in the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 as well as the regulations to accommodate or transfer medical students from any foreign medical institutes to Indian medical colleges," Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharti Pravin Pawar said in a written response to a question about the delay in accommodating those medical students.

Pawar further stated that the NMC has not granted authorization for any foreign medical students to be transferred or accommodated in any Indian medical college or university.

In response to a question regarding the total number of such students, she said that, according to information obtained from the Ministry of External Affairs, around 20,000 Indian students returned from Ukraine.

"As per information received from Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv has communicated with all the involved universities in Ukraine for issuing transcripts and other documentation to the students in a timely way," Pawar said in response to a question about government help to students.
