Chhattisgarh: The Chhattisgarh Cabinet accepts two amended measures on reservations; they will be submitted on December 1 and 2 during a special assembly session.

The amended bills on the state's reservation issue will be introduced in the special assembly session that will be held on December 1 and 2.

Thursday's cabinet meeting took place at the Chief Minister's house.  Agriculture Minister Ravindra Chaubey said, if the bill is approved by the assembly, the state's overall reserve rate will increase to 76 percent.

The Chhattisgarh Public Service (Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes Reservation) Amendment Act and the amendment relating to admission in educational institutions were accepted. The commission will use the population data (OBC and EWS) to inform the reservation.

Notably, the Chhattisgarh High Court overturned its 2012 ruling raising the state's 58 percent (SC 12 percent, OBC 14 percent, and ST 32 percent) cap on the percentage of people who can be considered for reservations in employment and education. The High Court said that, it is unconstitutional to violate the 50% quota restriction. The High Court order reduced the ST reservation from its previous percentage of 32% to 20%.
