CHENNAI: The Opposition, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), will boycott the meetings of Legislative parties called by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K. Stalin on Saturday to discuss the EWS quota, the party sources said.

Former law minister and AIADMK organisational secretary D. Jayakumar said that the party was agreeing to the 10 percent EWS reservation in employment and educational settings.

The AIADMK chairman strongly criticised the DMK government and argued that quotas have to be implemented without harming the interests of any community or group.

Also, he said that the DMK was a member of the Indian government, which had established a commission on reservations in 2006. According to Jayakumar, it was on the basis of that advice that the current 10 percent quota law was created.

The former minister urged Chief Minister Stalin to maintain the 69 percent reservation policy and mentioned that AIADMK leaders and former Chief Ministers J. Jayalalithaa and the late M.G. Ramachandran had been granted legal protection under the Constitution's ninth schedule.

The AIADMK leader further said that Congress and the CPI-M, who are the DMK's partners, supported the 10 percent reservation.
