CHENNAI: The government of Tamil Nadu, led by the DMK, has said to have sent a document to President Droupadi Murmu requesting the recall of Governor R.N. Ravi.

A statement from the DMK claims that members of the party's Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as well as representatives from its coalition partners in the Secular Progressive Alliance have signed the memorandum.

The memorandum reads, "We must place on record our displeasure that the work being done by the Tamil Nadu government and the Legislature is being obturated by the office of the Governor by openly contradicting its policy in public and unnecessarily delaying assent to measures.

A total of 20 laws that were unjustifiably delayed by the Office of the Governor are noted in the memorandum. The Tamil Nadu Universities Laws (Amendment) Bill 2022, which transfers to the state government the authority to appoint vice-chancellors to state universities -- a function previously held by the governor in the role of university chancellor -- is among the legislation, according to a statement from the DMK.

In the document, the DMK drew attention to the Governor's 10-month postponement of the TN Cooperative Societies Bill.

"R.N. Ravi  has reportedly developed an unfortunate propensity to publicly profess his lack of faith in the secular ideoloogies of this country and often engages in divisive rhetoric.  This is embarrassing for our government, which is fiercely committed to the country's secular character" adds the memorandum.

For the past few months, there has been conflict between the governor of Tamil Nadu and the state's government.
