Lucknow: By-elections are set to take place on 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh within the next six months. In response, Azad Samaj Party President and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad announced that his party will contest in all these by-elections. Azad made this declaration during his visit to Phulpur to engage with party workers ahead of the by-elections.

Chandrashekhar Azad emphasized, “Our party did not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on all seats in view of the national interest, but from 2022 to 2024, Azad Samaj Party has completed preparations in UP. The party organization has decided that all the 10 seats of the by-election will be fought strongly.” He visited Phulpur specifically to mobilize and communicate with the workers for the upcoming by-election.

Azad criticized the current state of law and order in Uttar Pradesh, citing the incident of rape and murder of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Meerut. He stated, “The government is not able to do justice to the victims. Bullets are being fired openly in Ghaziabad. The government is neither able to do justice nor is it able to handle law and order.”

Addressing the Kanwar Yatra, Azad targeted the UP government for covering mosques and tombs on the Kanwar route with cloth. He asserted, “Religious places should not be covered. Rather, the government should improve the law and order.”

The Election Commission has announced that by-elections will be held on 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh between June 7 and 18. The assembly seats where by-elections will occur are Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Karhal (Mainpuri), Milkipur (Ayodhya), Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Ghaziabad, Majhawan (Mirzapur), Sisamau (Kanpur Nagar), Khair (Aligarh), Phulpur (Prayagraj), and Kundarki (Moradabad).
